Casemiro makes Inter Miami debut despite MLS investigation into transfer

Under MLS regulations, clubs must negotiate discovery rights with teams that previously held player registrations before signing outside standard draft or free agency channels. The Galaxy had previously held such rights to Casemiro. The match-winning goal came from Luis Suarez via penalty kick in the 81st minute after a collision between German Berterame and Montreal defender Efrain Morales resulted in a head injury. Berterame was transported by ambulance but was reported conscious and recovering well by interim coach Guillermo Hoyos. Suarez's goal marked his ninth of the season and sixth in three matches, contributing to Inter Miami's sixth consecutive victory. Messi remained sidelined as part of his post-World Cup recovery period.
