The race was moved from Bahrain in April due to regional tensions. Formula One announced that Malaysia's Sepang circuit will host the rescheduled Bahrain Grand Prix on October 4. The race, officially titled the "Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia," represents a solution to scheduling disruptions caused by regional instability. An agreement was reached between the governments of Malaysia and Bahrain, along with the FIA and Formula One governing bodies.
The original Bahrain race scheduled for April was postponed following escalations in the Middle East conflict. The Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in Jeddah was similarly cancelled during the same period. By relocating the Bahrain event to Sepang, Formula One restores its calendar to 23 races for the season.
The October 4 date positions the race between the Azerbaijan Grand Prix on September 26 and Singapore on October 11. Sepang last hosted Formula One in 2017 and currently serves as a MotoGP venue. Formula One Chief Executive Stefano Domenicali highlighted the circuit's historical significance and its capacity to deliver a compelling racing experience for global audiences.
Uncertainty persists regarding the final two championship rounds scheduled for Qatar and Abu Dhabi. Industry sources suggest Italy's Imola circuit, home to Ferrari, is being considered as a potential replacement finale should those Middle Eastern races also be cancelled. The rescheduled event remains subject to final FIA World Motor Sport Council approval.
