Lando Norris wins Hungarian Grand Prix for first F1 triumph in 2026

Lando Norris claimed victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix on Sunday, marking his first full race win since November of the previous year. Starting from pole position at the Hungaroring circuit in Budapest, Norris initially lost the lead to his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri after running wide at the second corner. However, when Piastri collided with Carlos Sainz Jr during the race, the resulting delay allowed Norris to regain the advantage following a pit stop and ultimately control the remainder of the race.

Max Verstappen in his Red Bull secured second place, while teenage driver Kimi Antonelli finished third. Piastri's race ended prematurely due to a broken gearbox, removing him from contention. The result extended Antonelli's lead in the championship standings, while Lewis Hamilton and George Russell encountered difficulties—Hamilton received a pit-lane speeding penalty and finished fifth, while Russell finished seventh after nearly stalling at the start.

Norris expressed satisfaction with his performance, crediting his car's performance throughout the day. The Hungarian Grand Prix served as the final race before the mid-season break, with the championship resuming at the Dutch Grand Prix scheduled for August 23.
