Russia and Ukraine report casualties as they continue to trade attacks

Military operations between Russia and Ukraine have intensified, with both sides reporting casualties from coordinated strikes. Ukrainian forces targeted Russian infrastructure including three logistics centres located in Sarapul, Kazan, and Volgograd, as well as a maritime terminal in the Krasnodar region and an oil refinery in Volgograd. President Zelenskyy characterized these strikes as justified responses aimed at undermining Russia's capacity to sustain military operations.

On the Russian side, attacks on Ukrainian territory resulted in multiple casualties. The Nikopol district in Dnipropetrovsk region experienced significant bombardment across four districts, with over 20 strikes using drones, artillery, and aerial weapons. Russian regional officials reported drone attacks in the Volgograd and Rostov regions, resulting in one death and multiple injuries.

Ukraine's strategy of targeting Russian oil refineries has proven consequential, forcing Moscow to procure fuel from international markets despite being a major hydrocarbon producer. Supply disruptions have extended to occupied territories, with fuel shortages and blackouts reported in Crimea following Ukrainian operations against Russian supply routes north of the Sea of Azov.

Russia's Defence Ministry reported striking a vessel carrying military cargo near Odesa and claimed territorial gains in the Donetsk and Kharkiv regions. The Russian Union of Grain Exporters and Producers warned that continued conflict threatens global grain supplies, predicting potential blockages of export corridors that would disproportionately affect developing nations through elevated commodity prices.
