Israeli air strike on a vehicle in Gaza kills two Hamas security officials

An Israeli military air strike has resulted in the deaths of two senior Hamas security personnel in the Gaza Strip. The strike targeted a vehicle traveling through Deir al-Balah, killing Colonel Wael Musa al-Ladawi and Ramez Tawfiq Abu Zureiq. According to Hamas's interior ministry, al-Ladawi held the position of head of the group's internal security service in central Gaza, making him a high-ranking officer within the organization. Footage released by the Shehab News Agency documented the aftermath of the strike, showing a charred vehicle on the roadway surrounded by thick smoke. The bodies of both men were transported to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital. This killing follows a similar incident on Saturday in which the head of the Hamas police force in northern Gaza was killed in an Israeli attack; Israel characterized that individual as also being a member of Hamas's military wing. Hamas officials have characterized the targeted killings as part of a deliberate Israeli strategy to destabilize Gaza by systematically destroying state institutions and rendering territorial administration impossible. The strikes continue despite a notional ceasefire that commenced on October 10, with Israel conducting near-daily military operations that have effectively undermined the truce's credibility. Diplomatic peace negotiations have stalled, with the Board of Peace established by United States President Donald Trump failing to achieve substantive progress. Earlier in the week, Hamas elected Khalil al-Hayya as its new leader, nearly two years following the death of his predecessor Yahya Sinwar at the hands of Israeli forces in Gaza.
