Fury dominates Wach in Thailand boxing bout ahead of Joshua showdown
Tyson Fury defeated Polish boxer Mariusz Wach in a tune-up bout at a Muay Thai stadium in Pattaya, Thailand on Friday, forcing Wach to retire at the start of the eighth round. The fight, attended by approximately 1,500 fans, will be featured in a Netflix reality show and serves as preparation for Fury's planned showdown with fellow British heavyweight Anthony Joshua later this year.
British heavyweight Tyson Fury secured a decisive victory over Polish opponent Mariusz Wach in a non-televised bout held at the Max Muay Thai Stadium in Pattaya, Thailand. The fight served as a tune-up for Fury ahead of an anticipated matchup with fellow Briton Anthony Joshua. Wach, 46 years old, was unable to continue fighting at the start of the eighth round, leading to his retirement from the bout. The event drew approximately 1,500 spectators and will be included in an upcoming Netflix reality series titled "At Home with the Furys."
Fury, who will turn 38 in August, has compiled a professional record of 36 wins. His recent career has been marked by two losses to Ukraine's Oleksandr Usyk in 2024, which prompted his initial retirement from boxing in December 2024. He announced his return to the sport in January of this year. Wach entered the contest with a difficult recent record, having lost seven of his last ten fights.
Fury's boxing career has included significant achievements at the heavyweight level. He captured world titles by defeating Wladimir Klitschko in 2015, earning the Super WBA, IBF, and WBO championships. After a period away from competition, Fury returned in 2018 and engaged in a trilogy with American Deontay Wilder, resulting in one draw and two victories that secured the WBC title for Fury. Joshua, also a former world heavyweight champion, is scheduled to compete against Kristian Prenga in Saudi Arabia on Saturday.
