Spain’s De la Fuente slams Argentina’s World Cup conduct as ‘unacceptable’

FIFA has initiated a disciplinary investigation into Argentina's conduct following the World Cup final match against Spain. The investigation was triggered by several on-field confrontations that occurred after Spain's 1-0 victory in extra time, which ended Argentina's reign as defending champion.

The incidents under review include physical altercations involving Argentina midfielder Leandro Paredes, who engaged in confrontations with Spain players Eric Garcia and Gavi. Additionally, Spain captain Rodri was struck in the stomach by Argentina defender Nahuel Molina during play. Argentina assistant coach Roberto Ayala was also involved in a separate altercation with Spain player Dani Olmo, which Ayala characterized as a shove rather than a punch, and for which he subsequently apologized.

Spain coach Luis de la Fuente expressed strong disapproval of the incidents, describing them as intolerable and unacceptable behavior from players of such calibre. De la Fuente noted that he did not witness the confrontations directly while celebrating with his team but emphasized that such conduct cannot be permitted at the professional level. He praised his own players for maintaining composure and behaving professionally despite the provocations they faced.

The investigation process allows FIFA's disciplinary prosecutor to request the opening of formal proceedings and propose disciplinary measures against member associations, clubs, and individuals.
