World Cup final tickets near $2.3m mark on FIFA’s resale platform
World Cup final tickets at New York New Jersey Stadium are being resold for up to $2.3 million on FIFA's resale platform, with no tickets available on FIFA's primary sales site. The tournament saw unprecedented ticket demand, with over 99.7 percent of available seats filled during preliminary matches despite initial concerns about high prices.
The FIFA World Cup final between Argentina and Spain has become the most expensive sporting event ever held in the United States, with resale ticket prices reaching $2.3 million less than 24 hours before kickoff. While FIFA's official sales platform had exhausted its inventory by Saturday, the resale market continued to offer seats ranging from under $10,000 to the multi-million-dollar range.
The tournament demonstrated unprecedented fan willingness to pay premium prices across all 104 matches. According to ticketing expert Scott Friedman, FIFA successfully gauged demand and set prices accordingly, with fans paying substantially more than anticipated despite concerns about visa restrictions and domestic political climate. Initial group-stage tickets were priced at $575, more than double the 2022 World Cup's most expensive group tickets, with dynamic pricing pushing many buyers to pay significantly higher amounts.
Attendance data revealed strong fan engagement throughout the competition. More than half of the 72 group matches reached capacity, with preliminary stage matches achieving 99.7 percent seat occupancy. This performance contradicted early skepticism following sparse attendance at a June 11 match between South Korea and Czechia at Guadalajara Stadium.
The expanded 48-team format contributed to heightened interest and ticket sales. FIFA's pricing strategy, initially questioned when hundreds of final tickets remained available at $7,000 earlier in the week, ultimately proved successful as the resale market absorbed remaining inventory at substantially elevated prices.
