Jasprit Bumrah ruled out of Sri Lanka Test series due to injury

India's cricket board announced that pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah will not participate in the forthcoming Test series against Sri Lanka this month. The 32-year-old withdrew from the squad after experiencing persistent discomfort in his left knee, an injury he sustained while fielding during a one-day international against England in Cardiff in July. Bumrah had initially been included in the squad pending a final fitness assessment and had been undergoing rehabilitation at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

To fill the vacancy, the BCCI selected Auqib Nabi, a 29-year-old fast bowler from Jammu and Kashmir, marking his first senior Test call-up. Nabi earned recognition following an impressive domestic cricket record, accumulating 104 wickets across the last two Ranji Trophy seasons. Most notably, he claimed 60 wickets during the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy season, helping his domestic team secure their first title. Additionally, Nabi featured for India A during their tour of Sri Lanka in June-July, taking six wickets across two first-class matches.

Nabi's selection represents a historic milestone, as he becomes the first cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir to receive a call-up to India's senior Test side. The BCCI also noted that batter Sai Sudharsan's participation in the series remains contingent on receiving fitness clearance. The Test series commences in Galle on August 15, with the second match scheduled in Colombo from August 23.
