IRGC strikes US targets in Kuwait a day after US hits Iran: Latest events

Iran's military announced Friday that it had conducted a drone attack against US military assets stationed at Kuwait's Ahmad Al-Jaber airbase. According to statements carried by Iran's Tasnim news agency, the operation targeted specific infrastructure including aircraft hangars, satellite communication systems, and storage facilities for military equipment. Iranian officials framed the strike as a direct response to US military action conducted the previous day against multiple Iranian locations, with particular reference to a residential structure on Qeshm island that resulted in three deaths.

The US Central Command had announced overnight strikes on Wednesday targeting dozens of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps positions across Iranian territory. Explosions were subsequently reported across multiple Iranian provinces and islands. The US had not publicly responded to Friday's Iranian attack at the time of reporting, and details regarding damage or casualties from the drone strike remained unclear.

According to Ali Akbar Dareini, a researcher at Tehran's Center for Strategic Studies, Iran's targeting strategy reflects an effort to preempt future American military operations by striking staging areas and support infrastructure. Dareini characterized the Iranian approach as seeking to expand the conflict geographically rather than intensifying it vertically, contrasting this with what he described as Washington's strategy of ramping up direct military attacks. He suggested Iran aims to either achieve a permanent cessation of hostilities or prepare for a wider regional conflict.

The escalation extended beyond Iran and the United States. Jordan's armed forces reported intercepting and destroying five missiles launched from Iran on Thursday morning. Kuwait's Defence Ministry announced that one worker died in an Iranian attack targeting a facility belonging to a Chinese company in the country's northern region.
