The full story

The Asian Football Confederation's executive committee has formalized Saudi Arabia's position as host for the upcoming three editions of the Asian Champions League Elite finals. This decision follows the country's successful organization of the inaugural two tournaments since the continent's premier club competition underwent restructuring ahead of the 2024/2025 season.

The finals format centralizes quarterfinal, semifinal, and championship matches at a single venue. Jeddah has proven particularly successful as a host city, with Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli capturing both previous titles. The club defeated Japan's Kawasaki Frontale in 2025 and then Machida Zelvia in May, with the latter victory coming via a 1-0 result after extra time.

The next tournament edition will expand its league phase from 24 to 32 teams, featuring the domestic champions from the region's leading competitions. Qualifying rounds commence on August 11, with the league phase draw scheduled for Kuala Lumpur on August 18 and matches beginning September 14.

Historically, Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal holds the competition's record with four championship wins across nine final appearances. Japan's Urawa Red Diamonds and South Korea's Pohang Steelers have each won the trophy twice, though both have appeared in three finals.
