Iran pushes back against US as regional attacks heat up

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps released video evidence of overnight missile attacks targeting a US military installation in Jordan, characterizing the strikes as retaliation for American aggressive actions. Jordan reported that all five ballistic missiles were successfully intercepted. President Trump responded with threats of severe retaliation, telling Fox News that Iran would "get a beating" and indicating his administration was considering additional military operations against Iran-aligned groups operating in Iraq and the broader region.

Simultaneously, Iranian authorities reported that a missile struck a border area in West Azerbaijan province without causing fatalities. Israel announced that Hezbollah, an Iran-backed Lebanese organization, had launched a drone targeting an Israeli military vehicle in occupied southern Lebanon. The Houthi movement in Yemen, aligned with Tehran, conducted major attacks against Saudi Arabian oil infrastructure and Saudi-linked vessels in the Bab al-Mandeb Strait. The United States and Saudi Arabia jointly launched strikes on Iran-aligned forces in Iraq, resulting in at least twenty fighter casualties.

Iran's deputy foreign minister for legal and international affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi, rejected Oman's proposal for a 50-50 management arrangement of the Strait of Hormuz. He stated that Tehran would not recognize a US-backed southern route near Oman or a third alternative route under the proposal, and opposed de-mining operations by foreign powers in the strategic waterway.

Regional mediators continue advocating for diplomatic resolution to the US-Israel conflict with Iran that commenced on February 28. However, the escalating cycle of attacks suggests minimal willingness for direct negotiations. Iranian leadership views US naval blockades of southern ports as acts of aggression and accuses Washington of violating commitments from a June memorandum of understanding, including failure to release frozen Iranian assets and permitting Israeli occupation of Lebanese territory.
