Berlin police shoot dead suspect in car ramming attack on Pride event

A suspect in a vehicle attack targeting Berlin's Pride march was fatally shot by police on Sunday after a search lasting nearly 24 hours. Abdul Ballout, identified as a German citizen with Lebanese roots, was located at an allotment garden complex in the Spandau district of the capital. According to police statements, Ballout approached officers while armed with a bladed weapon, prompting officers to open fire. Despite immediate resuscitation efforts by the Berlin Fire Department, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The initial incident occurred Saturday evening when a van drove into a crowd in central Berlin's Tiergarten area, resulting in one fatality and 29 injuries. Police indicated that preliminary findings pointed toward the attack being motivated by Islamic extremism.
