Norway to make formal complaint to FIFA over Balogun red card saga

Norwegian federation president Lise Klaveness expressed alarm that the decision was influenced by external political pressure, specifically citing US President Donald Trump's direct involvement. According to reports, Trump contacted FIFA President Gianni Infantino to request the suspension be lifted. Klaveness stated that such interference undermines the integrity of the sport and creates a troubling precedent for how international football governance operates.

Klaveness emphasized that the decision-making process itself was flawed, noting that FIFA's Disciplinary Committee chairman made the controversial call unilaterally without consulting other committee members. The controversy gained additional attention when Belgium subsequently defeated the cohosts 4-1 in the match where Balogun ultimately played.
