Italy makes financial ‘exceptions’ in bid to hire Pep Guardiola as coach

Italy's football federation leadership has engaged in talks with renowned coach Pep Guardiola about potentially taking over the Italian national team's coaching role. Federation chief Giovanni Malago disclosed these conversations in a recent interview, acknowledging that the organization would be prepared to adjust its budgetary constraints to accommodate Guardiola's compensation if an agreement were reached. However, Malago emphasized that such an appointment remains uncertain and stressed the importance of maintaining dialogue with potential candidates. Guardiola brings direct experience with Italian football, having played for Brescia and AS Roma during the early 2000s. The Italian national program faces significant challenges following its third consecutive failure to qualify for the World Cup in March. Guardiola, now 55, recently concluded his tenure at Manchester City after a decade marked by six Premier League titles and a Champions League victory. Italian media reports indicate that former national team players Andrea Pirlo and Roberto Mancini, the latter having led Italy to victory at Euro 2020, are also being evaluated as potential coaching candidates for the squad.
