Türkiye’s Fidan visits Doha, meets Qatar’s Amir and PM-FM

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan arrived in Doha on Sunday for high-level talks aimed at strengthening bilateral ties between Qatar and Türkiye. The visit included meetings with Qatar's senior leadership at Lusail Palace and the Amiri Diwan.

During his audience with Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Fidan conveyed condolences regarding the passing of the late Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. The Amir acknowledged the Turkish minister's sentiments. The two leaders reviewed the scope of cooperation between their nations and discussed current regional and international developments, with particular emphasis on diplomatic initiatives designed to reduce tensions and strengthen security across the region.

Fidan subsequently held separate discussions with Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. These talks similarly addressed bilateral relations and recent regional developments. Sheikh Mohammed underscored the necessity for all parties to remain committed to dialogue and diplomacy, and to uphold agreements reached under the memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran. He also stressed the importance of maintaining freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and reaffirmed Qatar's backing for efforts to ease tensions and achieve comprehensive regional peace.

The visit represents Fidan's second trip to Qatar in recent months, following a May visit. Qatar and Türkiye have maintained close strategic relations since elevating their partnership in 2014, with the Qatar-Türkiye Supreme Strategic Committee serving as the primary framework for cooperation across political, economic, and defence sectors. The committee has held annual meetings since 2015, alternating venues between the two countries. The most recent session took place in Doha in October 2025, with the 12th session scheduled for later in 2026 under the joint chairmanship of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Qatar's Amir. The two nations continue to pursue expanded trade volumes under their Economic and Trade Partnership Agreement, signed in November 2018.
