Tate brothers arrested in Miami as UK adds rape, trafficking charges

The Tate brothers, dual US-UK citizens, were taken into custody in Miami following action by the United States Marshals Service. The UK government has initiated extradition proceedings against them on multiple serious charges. British prosecutors have expanded their case significantly, with Andrew Tate, 39, facing seven counts of rape, three counts of sex trafficking, three counts of assault, and 19 additional charges related to indecent images and extreme pornography. His brother Tristan, 38, faces one count of sexual assault, two counts of rape, and three counts of facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation. The charges relate to alleged offences spanning from July 2010 to August 2017, involving seven alleged victims in total. The brothers had previously been prosecuted in the UK on 21 charges including rape, human trafficking, and actual bodily harm. They fled Romania in 2022 after arrest there on separate, unrelated charges of rape and human trafficking. Both brothers deny all allegations against them. The pair became prominent online through displays of wealth and lifestyle content, though their public conduct drew criticism for offensive and misogynistic behaviour prior to their legal difficulties.
