Qatar’s Amir receives condolences for third day after Father Amir’s death
Qatar's Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani received condolences from world leaders and foreign dignitaries at Lusail Palace on the third and final day of official mourning following the death of the Father Amir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
Qatar's Amir continued receiving high-level delegations at Lusail Palace as the nation concluded its official mourning period following the death of the Father Amir. The third day of condolences saw visits from numerous world leaders and senior dignitaries who traveled to Doha to express sympathy and solidarity with the State of Qatar.
Among the international visitors were French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu, Prince Edward representing the United Kingdom, Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili, and Tajikistan's Deputy Prime Minister Suleiman Ziyozoda. Additional leaders included German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Kyrgyz Prime Minister Adylbek Kasymaliev, Sri Lankan Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, Nepalese Vice President Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav, Cuban Deputy Prime Minister Eduardo Martínez, and Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah and UAE Supreme Council member, also paid respects.
The meetings were attended by senior Qatari officials including Deputy Amir Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Thani, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, and Shura Council Speaker Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim, alongside ruling family members and the late Father Amir's sons. Over the preceding two days, the Amir had received additional heads of state, ministers, diplomats, and large numbers of Qatari citizens and residents offering condolences.
The official mourning period concluded Wednesday evening, marking the end of four days of national mourning declared following the Father Amir's death. Government ministries, bodies, and public institutions suspended operations from Monday, with employees scheduled to resume work on Sunday, July 19. Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani was laid to rest on Sunday following funeral prayers at the Imam Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab Mosque, with burial at Lusail Cemetery.
Sheikh Hamad is widely recognized as an architect of modern Qatar who oversaw rapid economic expansion and major developments across the energy, education, media, and infrastructure sectors during his tenure in power.
