HIA and Qatar Airways launch Fast Pass biometric travel service
Hamad International Airport and Qatar Airways have jointly launched Fast Pass, a biometric facial recognition service enabling passengers to move through airport checkpoints with minimal document checks. The system connects over 700 touchpoints and represents one of the largest biometric passenger rollouts in the Middle East, with registration available via self-service kiosks and the Qatar Airways mobile app.
Hamad International Airport and Qatar Airways have introduced Fast Pass, a biometric travel solution developed in partnership with technology provider SITA. The system leverages facial recognition technology to streamline passenger movement through multiple airport checkpoints, significantly reducing the need for traditional document verification.
Passengers can register for Fast Pass at self-service check-in kiosks located throughout the airport or through the Qatar Airways mobile application. Once enrolled, travelers use their facial biometric data as their boarding pass, moving through dedicated biometric-enabled stations at check-in, baggage drop, security screening, and final boarding. The entire process operates in seconds, substantially cutting wait times during peak travel periods.
The service encompasses connectivity across more than 700 touchpoints integrated into a single passenger journey framework, with security and data protection protocols embedded throughout the system. Participation remains entirely voluntary, with conventional processing options and ground staff assistance available for passengers who prefer traditional methods.
According to the International Air Transport Association, global passenger preference has shifted toward biometric identification over physical travel documents. Fast Pass aligns Hamad International Airport with this international trend as part of the airport's broader Innovation Roadmap. The airport and Qatar Airways plan to expand the system to additional touchpoints and extend capability to other airlines operating from the facility in the coming period.
